Background of the study
Hashtag campaigns have emerged as powerful tools for political mobilization on Twitter, significantly influencing the syntax of digital communication in Nigeria. These campaigns, often driven by political movements, use concise and impactful language to unify and rally supporters. In this context, hashtags not only serve as identifiers but also reshape sentence structures and grammatical conventions, as users integrate campaign slogans and rallying cries into their everyday tweets (Okeke, 2023). The use of hashtags in political discourse often results in the creation of novel syntactic patterns that challenge traditional grammatical norms. Such innovations are evident in the formation of truncated sentences, deliberate ambiguities, and the blending of formal and informal registers (Ibrahim, 2024). This study examines the syntactic impact of hashtag campaigns associated with political movements, exploring how these campaigns foster a dynamic interplay between language and political expression. By analyzing tweet structures and hashtag usage, the research aims to reveal the extent to which political mobilization drives syntactic evolution in the Nigerian digital landscape (Afolabi, 2023).
Statement of the problem
Despite the recognized role of hashtag campaigns in political mobilization, there is a paucity of research focusing on their impact on syntactic structures in Nigerian Twitter discourse. Current studies tend to concentrate on the content and reach of political hashtags, neglecting the linguistic modifications they prompt (Chukwu, 2024). The rapid evolution of tweet syntax, influenced by political fervor and campaign strategies, poses challenges for traditional grammatical frameworks. Without an in-depth analysis of these changes, the broader implications for language evolution remain poorly understood. This study addresses the need for a systematic investigation into the syntactic shifts associated with hashtag campaigns, particularly within political contexts, to better understand their role in shaping digital discourse (Okeke, 2023).

Research questions
Significance of the study
This study is significant as it explores the intersection of political mobilization and language evolution, specifically the impact of hashtag campaigns on syntax in Nigerian digital discourse. The insights gained will enhance our understanding of the role of social media in political communication and language change, benefiting researchers and policymakers alike (Okeke, 2023).
Scope and limitations of the study
This study focuses on the syntactic analysis of Twitter discourse related to political hashtag campaigns in Nigeria. It is limited to online political movements and does not extend to non-political hashtags or other social media platforms.
